Bears add coaches Reggie Herring (LB) and Paul Pasqualoni (DL)

LAKEFOREST, IL – The Chicago Bears have hired Reggie Herring (linebackers)and Paul Pasqualoni (defensive line) to their coaching staff.

         Herring has 33 years of coaching experience, including eight as a linebackerscoach in the NFL. Pasqualoni has 42 years of coaching experience, including 22as a collegiate head coach and six seasons as a NFL assistant. The two coachesworked together with the Cowboys in 2010 when Pasqualoni was Dallas' defensivecoordinator/defensive line coach and Herring was the linebackers coach.

         Herring spent the last three seasons (2011-13) as the linebackers coach of theHouston Texans, his second such stint with the team (2002-03). In 2011, Herringhelped Brian Cushing earn second team AP All-Pro honors as he led the team with114 tackles.  That season, Connor Barwin made the transition to outsidelinebacker from defensive end and tied for third in the AFC with a team-high11.5 sacks. Houston linebackers accounted for 27 of the team's 44 sacks thatyear as the Texans ranked second in the NFL in total defense (285.7 yards pergame).

        During Herring's three seasons (2008-10) coaching the linebackers in Dallas,DeMarcus Ware led the NFL with 46.5 sacks. In 2008, Ware led the NFL with 20sacks, tied for eighth most in NFL single-season history and second most by alinebacker in a single-season (trailing Lawrence Taylor's 20.5 in 1986). 

          Inaddition to his NFL experience, Herring spent 25 seasons in the collegiatecoaching ranks including 24 as a linebackers coach and 11 as a defensivecoordinator. Herring's final collegiate stop was as the defensivecoordinator/linebackers coach at Arkansas (2005-07) where he also served as theinterim head coach for the Razorbacks in the 2008 Cotton Bowl. In 2006, Herringwas a finalist for the Broyles Award, which is given annually to the topassistant coach in the nation.

          Herringspent the 2004 season as the defensive coordinator at NC State and also servedas defensive coordinator/linebackers coach at Clemson (1997-01) and TCU(1992-93) and the linebackers coach at Clemson (1994-9), Auburn (1986-91) andOklahoma State (1982-85) after starting his coaching career in 1981 as agraduate assistant at Oklahoma State.

         Pasqualoni was most recently head coach at the University of Connecticut(2011-13).  He also has served as head coach at Syracuse University(1991-2004) and Western Connecticut (1982-86). As a collegiate head coach,Pasqualoni compiled a 151-94-1 record, posted 15 winning seasons, won fiveconference titles and led his teams to a 6-3 record in nine bowl games. Hehelped coach over 30 NFL draft selections during his time as coach at Syracuse,including seven eventual first-round draft picks: WR Marvin Harrison, S DonovinDarius, S Tebucky Jones, QB Donovan McNabb, LB Keith Bulluck, S Will Allen andDE Dwight Freeney. At Connecticut, Pasqualoni helped tutor six eventual NFLDraft picks, including a school-record five in the 2013 NFL Draft. Four of thesix (DE Kendall Reyes, CB Dwayne Gratz, LB Sio Moore and TE Ryan Griffin) madestarts in the NFL this season.

          Priorto his time at Connecticut, Pasqualoni worked in the NFL for six seasons(2005-10). Before serving as Dallas' defensive coordinator/defensive linecoach, Pasqualoni served as the defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins(2008-09). In 2008, Miami's defense was ninth in the NFL in points per game(19.8) and eighth in the league in sacks (40), as the Dolphins won the AFC Easttitle. In 2009, Miami was tied for third in the NFL with 44 sacks.

          From2006-07, Pasqualoni served as the linebackers coach of the Cowboys afterworking as Dallas' tight ends coach in 2005. In 2007, Ware was tied for thirdin the NFL with 14 sacks and was tied for ninth in the league with 11.5 sacksin 2006.

         Before being named head coach of Syracuse in 1991, he spent four seasons(1987-90) as linebackers coach of the Orangemen. A collegiate linebacker atPenn State (1968-71), Pasqualoni began his coaching career in 1972 at his highschool alma mater, Cheshire, in Connecticut. He got his first collegiatecoaching experience at Southern Connecticut State where he was an assistantcoach for four seasons (1976-79) before being named the school's defensivecoordinator, a title he held from1980-81.
