A man is in Chandler Police custody after he led them on a chase with high speeds after an alleged carjacking.
Police were called to a Circle K store at 498 S. Arizona when a motorist reported that his rental car was taken nearby at knife point. Officers searched the area and 15 minutes later they tried to stop the vehicle. The suspect fled from officers at high speed and during the pursuit a police car and a gate were damaged.
Officers deployed spike strips to deflate the suspect's tires leading to the vehicle finally being stopped by officers near Gilbert & Riggs Road.
Chandler Police said the suspect, 19-year-old Daniel Hernandez, surrendered to officers.
Police say Hernandez is on supervised probation.
He's in custody on charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, criminal damage, unlawful flight from law enforcement and reckless driving.
