Police: Pedestrian struck by drunk driver in Walmart parking lot

TEMPE, Ariz. -

A pedestrian has been struck by a drunk driver who while running from a previous accident hit a vehicle in a Tempe Walmart parking lot which crashed into a pedestrian.

Tempe Police Sergeant Mike Pooley said that there was a crash at Rural & Southern, and 31 year-old Christy Kupper fled the scene at a high rate of speed through the Walmart parking lot at 800 E Southern Avenue.

Kupper drove west through the parking lot and collided with a curb and a red Mazda passenger car. The crash sent the Mazda into a truck waiting to turn and the Mazda hit a woman leaving the store.

The woman who was hit was taken to a valley hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.

Kupper has been arrested on six counts of endangerment, aggravated assault, super extreme DUI, and hit & run.
