According to the US Dept. of Health, viruses can live up to 48 hours on surfaces. Get the following tips on how to clean your home during flu season from the Clean Team by Art Van.

1. FOCUS ON HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS.
Certain areas get more use, therefore prone to more germs and bacteria

Top 10 Areas to Clean & Disinfect:
1. Doorknobs
2. Hand rails
3. Desks
4. Tables
5. Bathroom surfaces, esp. Faucets & Toilet paper holder
6. Computer keyboards and mice
7. Electronic equipment including video games and remote controls
8. Kitchen Countertops
9. Light switches
10. Children's Toys & Books

2. USE NATURAL CLEANING REMEDIES.
THE CHEMICALS IN TRADITIONAL DISENFECTANTS CAN POSE HEALTH RISKS & IRRITATE ALLERGIES

  • Vinegar is a disinfectant & deodorizer.  Kills 80% of germs & mold and 90%of bacteria. Cleans multi surfaces.
    • For an all-purpose cleaner, mix equal parts of vinegar and water together in a spray bottle and spray
  • Lemon:  Antibacterial & antiseptic.  Lemon is perfect for cleaning surfaces that are contaminated & can be used as natural air fresheners!
    • Sprinkle a half cut lemon with baking soda and scrub tough dirt on surfaces.
  • Baking Soda:  Use baking soda to scrub surfaces without scratching them.
    • For an all-purpose cleaner, mix freshly squeezed lemon juice, 3 parts water, and 1 part baking soda together.  Mix in a spray bottle and spray.
  • Tea Tree Oil: For tough kitchen stains, squeeze lemon juice on the spot and let sit for 10 minutes, then wipe. To kill germs, mix 2 cups of water, 3 tablespoons of liquid soap, and 20 to 30 drops of tea tree oil.
    • OR CleanTeam carries premixed natural cleaners, disinfectants and hand sanitizers.  These are no wipe, baby safe products, made with essential oils including Thyme.  You can purchase these products to use yourself or have a member of the CleanTeam apply them for you.

3. BRING IN PROFESSIONALS.

  • Cleaning to help prevent the spread of germs and disease can be a daunting task in your everyday life, not to mention when you're feeling under the weather.
  • Call in the cleaning experts when you need help with your deep cleaning needs
  • Cleaning companies offer seasonal cleaning services that can help eliminate bacteria and the spread of infectious disease.
  • Deep clean all carpets and upholstery. According to ISSA, a global cleaning industry association, as many as 200,000 bacteria may exist in every square inch of carpet, which is about 4,000 times the amount found on a toilet seat.  Our children & pets have far more contact with carpets than we realize. Bacteria residing in carpet may include everything from E. coli to Staphylococcus to salmonella. A deep cleaning of carpets and upholstery before and during the flu season can help reduce cross-contamination.
  • Deep clean all hard-surface floors. Cleaning professionals should pay particular attention to grout areas, which can be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria.
  • When we clean homes at this time of year, we recommend a deep cleaning, including the details, the corners & edges of your floor and the entire piece of upholstery, not just the area you sit on!  We also recommend our all natural baby safe sanitizer that kills 99.99% of germs on contact.  Some of our disinfectants continue to kill new germs!
  • Also make sure they are using green cleaning products and practices that protect the health of your family and the environment.
