Armed man surrenders after barricaded inside apartment with woman

MESA, Ariz. -

Two people have surrendered after an armed man and a woman were allegedly barricaded inside an apartment on Tuesday night.

Police say they were called to an apartment complex near Brown and Horne Road for a domestic dispute around 10 p.m.

When officers arrived, they noticed a woman screaming for help through a window and a man with what they say looked like a gun holstered to his side.

The man allegedly pointed what police thought was a gun at them and they responded by firing shots at the suspect through a window. The gun was later found to be a BB pistol gun.

Police say no one was injured.

The man barricaded himself and the woman inside the apartment.

Police negotiated with the suspect for hours into Wednesday morning.

At about 2 a.m., police gassed the apartment and both people surrendered.

According to police, both people live in the apartment as a couple. They are described as a Hispanic male in his early 50s and a white female in her late 40s.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say both are expected to face charges. Police say the woman's charges will probably be related to what neighbors say she was doing before they arrived. Her actual actions weren't revealed.

No names have been released.
