Bus riders wait for more than 2 hours during Monday DDOT bus delay

Bus riders at the stop along Seven Mile and Evergreen roads waited for more than two hours before catching a bus on Monday. The city confirmed it was about 45 buses short for the day's commute.

"I go to work every day almost half hour, hour late today; two hours late. My boss, he goes, 'I don't want to hear it! I don't want to hear it!' So, nothing we can say," says Skawky Marogi.

"You have plans, you have your business and your doctors appointments. And it's just hard," says Katherine Brown.

"I know it's an issue with the mechanics not having the manpower, and we were at a meeting where Gary Brown stated he was going to get some more mechanics" says Fred Westbrook, president of Algamated Transit Union Local 26, which represents Detroit city bus drivers. He's not surprised about Monday's delay but says nothing will change until the busses get fixed. Last week the city lost 40 percent of its fleet due to freezing gas lines and starting problems.

The city confirmed Monday it was about 45 buses short for the day's commute, but after talking to Fox 2 the city sent a bus to Seven Mile and Evergreen roads right away. Our cameras were rolling when passengers finally boarded a bus around 2:14 p.m. The bus was scheduled to have arrived at 12:10 p.m.

Westbrook says 30 buses out of service for major repairs should be reintroduced to the fleet by the end of February.
