"It started going boom, boom" said Charlie Lay who was working near 28th Avenue and Camelback when billowing smoke and the sound of explosions caught his attention.

"It caught that tree on fire and there were flames probably 30, 40 feet in the air and it was going pretty good" said Lay.

He called 911 and within 3 minutes firefighters were on scene. But the flames moved fast spreading to the home next door.

Corina Rocha was on her way to school, she spotted the smoke and jumped in to help. "We were knocking on their doors and we got him to wake up and he was getting his sister that was in a wheelchair out too so everyone got out just in time. "

Firefighters believe the fire started in a garage or storage area. "We have a fire investigator on scene who's trying to pinpoint why this fire got so large so quickly" said Captain Jonathan Jacobs with Phoenix Fire.

One dog was killed in the fire but thankfully no residents were hurt.

"I feel like a hero today" said Rocha.
