PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A rude awakening for a valley family after 2 men broke into their home while they were sleeping. It happened in the area of 101st Avenue & Camelback in Northwest Phoenix.

Phoenix Police say the suspects assaulted a man in the house and are still on the run.

Investigators spent the morning taking photos of evidence after 2 men broke down the front door of the victims home just after 4 a.m. Thursday.

Janet Higgins a neighbor describes what she heard, "you could hear them like they were hovering, they were hovering over the house trying to look for somebody. They had the light on, you could see the light."

Neighbors describe an extensive search in the neighborhood. Police say the family of 4 a father, mother, and 2 children woke up to find the 2 suspects inside. The dad was attacked and rushed to a local hospital as a precaution.

"They were demanding some items that they homeowner said that they didn't understand why they were there" said Sgt. Jerry Hester with the Phoenix Police Department.

Police initially reporting the break in was either random or believe the suspects got the wrong house that has other people who live in the area worried something like this could happen to them.

"It's kind of scary honestly because we're here with the kids and we don't have an alarm system or anything" said neighbor Brandon Martinez.

"We normally keep the fence gate open to the door but now it's safer to keep my doors locked especially with my son there" said Higgins.

Police couldn't say for certain if the intruders got away with anything or how they fled the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at (602) 262-6151.
