PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A pretty spectacular effort to raise money to fight cancer -- a couple of young men are walking across the country to raise $20,000 for cancer research!

We caught up with them when they arrived here in Arizona.

In April, they began their walk.

"We started in Danbury, Connecticut.  We went through Chicago and then all the way down to Kansas.  Now we're going to Huntington Beach, California," said George Crawford.

"Arizona is by far the most beautiful state we've been through," said Michael Ross.

A third buddy is taking part in their journey.

They're rationing their supplies since they have about a month left to finish their long trek across our country.  Their goal is to raise the money for research -- the disease hits close to home.

"Taking care of my grandmother with thyroid cancer, we didn't think she was gonna make it.  We took care of her a year and she ended up doing a lot better. I ended up seeing what she went through," said Crawford.

The young men partnered up with the group Live Strong to make this walk happen and they're getting help from everyone!

"Generally in the beginning of the trip, we would always knock on doors and ask people if we could set up their yards and they would feed us breakfast and dinner," said Ross.  "Towards the end of Colorado and through northern Arizona, we would be in tents a lot outside or woods or little culverts by the road.. culverts are pretty nice."

The country has struggled with a serious cold snap this week and they spent a lot of that time in sunny Arizona.  It doesn't mean it was warm enough to sleep outside.

"It was cold, it was pretty cold," said Ross.

Now -- California here they come!
