The Bauer family from Phoenix wanted a white Christmas with their family in Long Island, New York. They got it and then some when they got stuck in New York due to brutal winter snow storm.
Today we talked with them over Apple Facetime as they stopped for lunch on their unplanned road trip back home to sunny Phoenix.
"Like even the cool air... you can feel it through the car windows when you're driving we actually had the heat turned up pretty high last night just to keep the car warm when we were driving" said Brad Bauer.
The Bauer's spent Christmas and New Years back east so their kids 6 year-old Rory and 3 year-old Sawyer could see their grandparents.
"Yesterday we were excited we were gonna go home and our flight was delayed coming into Long Island causing us to miss our connecting flight and pushing us back to not finding a flight until next week" said Debbie Bauer.
FOX 10's Marc Martinez asked when the family decided to take matters into their own hands and rent a car to get home.
Debbie described how they tried other options - "I mean we tried everything we were like just fly us anywhere, fly us to Texas, get us to Vegas, we'll even fly to California and drive home... Nothing until next week"
So they borrowed car seats, packed the presents in the trunk, and hit the road. They're looking forward to our winter weather. "I think I'll be wearing shorts the rest of the winter. We will never complain of the heat ever again!" said Debbie.
