3 arrested after high-speed chase on I-20

Posted: Updated:
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -

A portion of Interstate 20 in Douglas County was shut down on Wednesday afternoon after a high speed police chase.

Investigators said the incident began when three armed men robbed an AT&T store on Thornton Road in Douglasville. A Douglasville police officer spotted the suspects' vehicle and began to pursue it. The vehicle led police on a chase that reached high speeds on I-20.

The pursuit ended when a deputy used a pit maneuver and forced the suspects' car off of the road near Tyson Road on I-20. Two suspects were taken into custody, while another fled into a wooded area. The wreck initiated accidents on each side of the interstate, according to police. Several patrol cars were involved in that accident, but it did not appear that any deputies or officers were seriously injured.

SKYFOX 5 showed that one left lane of I-20 WB was blocked between Post and Liberty roads.

The third suspect was eventually taken into custody around 4 p.m.

All lanes were reopened after 5 p.m.
