Flying out of Phoenix could become a bit more expensive if airport officials receive approval for an increase in passenger facility charges.
Right now the airport charges passengers $4.50 per ticket. The airport is seeking to charge $8.50 per ticket.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is self funded and funds generated through the program are not by law able to be used in other departments within the city.
The PFC program allows the collection of fees for every boarded passenger at commercial airports
controlled by public agencies. Airports like Sky Harbor use these fees to fund
FAA-approved projects that enhance safety, security, or capacity; reduce
noise; or increase air carrier competition.
