Re-released original 1985 Nike Air Jordans causes big lines and brawls

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Some will fight over them, while others will cash-in.

The original 1985 Nike Air Jordan's were just re-released.
The red and black high tops are sparking fights in shops across the country.

On Friday night, SkyFoxHD was over Foot Locker on 34th Street when a brawl broke out, after people didn't get the $140 shoes.

David Stayback, a New Jersey resident who was at the event, said a bunch of girls started going at it, then a brawl broke out.

Two officers were hit with pepper spray, no one was arrested.

In the Bronx, two women went at it over newly released Jordan's.

In Massapequa Park, Long Island, police arrested Moleek Smalls and Preshod McCoy for pulling a gun on a victim over a similar pair of shoes.

Mark Genato from the shoe wear blog Counterkicks.com says, these limited releases create a lot of hype and chaos.

"It’s amazing because the Jordan brand, they don't even put it out, they'll never see a commercial, they don't need to,” Genato said. “All they do is leak the photo out and it spreads like wild fire on the Internet."

For some of the Air Jordan shoppers, this is a business.

Collectors can sell the unworn shoes for more than double what they paid.

Many shoppers found that they're hard to find.

One Air Jordan collector went to 15 stores trying to track down a few pairs.

"I was doing these camp-outs it was never like this,” said Air Jordan collector Steven Maldonado. “You used to be able to walk in and get your sneakers now a days you have to buy them ahead a time of luck out."

As one customer put it, "Michael Jordan is playing golf right now and they're out here having fist fights over his sneakers."
