Dad sues over attack on disabled daughter

TINLEY PARK, Ill. (Associated Press) -

The father of a mentally disabled teenager has filed a lawsuit against the Joliet nursing home where the girl allegedly was sexually assaulted by an employee, a Tinley Park resident, in November.

The lawsuit was filed Dec. 19 in Will County Circuit Court against the worker, Salem Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Salem Village owners Makhlouf Suissa and Shoshana Maryeh, the Herald News is reporting.

Renalto Timola, 46, 7604 Ridgefield Lane, a certified nursing assistant at the center, is charged with criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse in the incident. The lawsuit claims Timola conspired with another nursing assistant at Salem Village, 1314 Rowell Ave., to allow him unsupervised access to the girl, which was prohibited by the center's policy.

Timola "repeatedly sexually assaulted and raped" the teenager, according to the suit.

It says Salem Village had two nursing assistants and a skilled nurse working overnight shifts.

When the girl's father admitted her to the facility, he was told by administrators that no male personnel would have unsupervised contact with his daughter, the lawsuit says.

It contends that the sexual assault has caused the girl extreme, permanent physical and emotional trauma.

The lawsuit does not state the amount of money being sought but asks a judge for compensatory and punitive damages that would "severely punish" the defendants and serve as a deterrent.
