CHANDLER, Ariz. -
A 15-year-old boy who was hit by a pickup truck while crossing street on a scooter near Arizona Avenue and Knox Road Monday night has passed away from his injuries.
"There will be no charges filed against the driver of the pick-up that struck the victim. Witnesses indicated the truck entered the intersection on a green light. This is a terrible tragedy and the driver was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time," stated Chandler Police Detective Seth Tyler.
The victim has been identified as Julian Gonzvar. Police say Gonzvar and his friends were crossing the street on a red light. Gonzvar's friends made it safely across the street, but just as he was almost across, he was hit and killed by a passing truck.
"Even though in Chandler and many other cities, the roadways are lit up very well.. we still can't see as well as we think we can at night and we have to be very cognisant of what could be potentially on the roadway," said Tyler.
Charges aren't expected to be filed. Police don't believe speed or impairment played a role in the accident.
