Philly Police Officer Rewarded After Serious Trauma

Philadelphia Police Officer Edward Davies welcomed inside the 25th police district. His second home with these smiling faces are all part of a very special family.

Officer Edward Davies:" I wouldn't want to work anywhere else other than the 25th district they're brothers and sisters they're great."

And there were moments - he feared he may never see them again. On August 13th, Davies was shot in the stomach during a struggle with a suspect inside this mini mart near 4th and West Annsbury .He underwent a series of surgeries. Now the only visible sign of what happened is this cane by his side. He says the recovery process has been difficult.

Officer Edward Davies: "Legs are still bothering me. Abdomen is bothering me. It's hard to get around it… just from walking from back there in very winded."

Davies is a little emotional as his colleagues presented him with the officer of the year award.

Officer Edward Davies: "I just feel very emotional right now. I'm at a loss of words this moment laughs."

District Captain Frank Vanore: "The officers were very adamant they wanted him to receive the award we've given it to other officers for great job they did his sacrifice he did for the community was huge."

Officer Edward Davies: "If it wasn't for you guys I would be lost."

The holidays this year hold even more meaning for Davies and his family is thankful just to be together

Officer Edward Davies "I am very grateful just to be home with my family and my children. It's just too great to be there with them."
