(FOX 11 / CNS) A 58-year-old woman was fatally shot today at a North Hills nursing facility in what police called an apparent mercy killing by her brother, who was arrested at the scene.
The shooting was reported around 9:20 a.m. at the facility in the 9600 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard, according to Los Angeles police Officer Rosario Herrera. The woman died at the scene.
Officers from the LAPD's Mission Station said the suspect was the woman's brother, who allegedly shot his sister in a mercy killing. Police said the woman had been hospitalized for five years and had been unconscious.
Sgt. Barry Montgomery said the woman's brother was believed to be in his 50s. His name was not immediately released.
He had a gun when he was arrested, police said.
