BUCKEYE, Ariz. -

A farm rental equipment business on 225th Avenue, between MC 85 and Miller Road was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.  The owners of Buckeye Rentals are still assessing the damage, but already the loss is being felt within the community as well as by customers nationwide.

David Finneman drove in from South Dakota through Phoenix to look at some farm equipment being sold in Buckeye.  The problem -- part of VMC Enterprises, more specifically, Buckeye Rentals, burned down.

"I just happened to know they sell equipment, saw a few pieces of equipment, I was interested in on the internet," he said.

"They have done repairs on a lot of the farm equipment and these farmers rely on having their equipment out as fast as possible," said Karen Alexander of the Buckeye Fire Department.

Alexander says the company not only does business locally, but sells and fixes farm equipment nationwide.

According to its web site, the 10,000 square foot facility has 35 full time employees.  Crews were called out just before 3 a.m.  -- the fire escalated to a second alarm blaze.

50 units from Buckeye to Phoenix to Glendale and over 100 firefighters responded.

The roof burned -- expensive repair -- equipment inside was lost.

"They suspected the office area was a total loss, but having spoken to owner this morning, they were able to salvage some of the important things out of the office," said Alexander.

The entrance that leads to Buckeye Rentals is just off MC 85 and as you can see, is lined with heavy farm equipment -- equipment the fire department says posed a problem for crews trying to get in.

"Just a lot of equipment, just access getting in the trucks also getting into the main warehouse was kind of tough with all the equipment inside," said Capt. Tommy Taylor.

It took a few hours to get a handle on the fire.  Hotspots lingered throughout the morning as did Finneman who was still hopeful his trip would be worth his while.

"I just walked around and walked in.. could see what was happening, but talked to the firefighters.. " he said.

No one was hurt in the fire, but the damage left behind could take some time to recover from.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but did not appear suspicious.  Firefighters believe it started in the office area.
