Off-duty cop killed in Queensboro Bridge crash

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

An off-duty NYPD officer was killed in a crash on the Queensboro Bridge early Tuesday.

36-year-old Elisa Toro was a mother of two and worked out of the 17th precinct on the East Side.

She died when her Ford Focus hit a guard rail and then a concrete barrier and the car flipped.  It crash happened at about 1:50 a.m. as she came off a notorious curve exiting the bridge. 

In the past two years there have been four accidents and three fatalities at coming off the curve from the outside lane of the bridge, including May 2011, March and April of 2013 and Tuesday.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly says the cement barriers were put up because there had been previous accidents where cars had goine up onto the sidewalk.three vehicular incidents in 2011.
