A lot of people try to avoid big-box stores like Walmart and instead shop local.
Here in Arizona, there's a big push to do that, with plenty of great local businesses.
Duck and Decanter is a local restaurant. Maybe you've seen it driving around downtown Phoenix. It's one of a couple hundred businesses that are part of Local First Arizona.
"Local First Arizona is a statewide organization hoping to strengthen Arizona's economy," said Kimber Lanning, executive director of Local First Arizona.
The program offers discounts, special events and information on the group's 200 businesses. A few of those businesses are Made Art Boutique, The Green Haus, Cibo and Public Market Cafe.
Lanning's message is if you make purchases at these places, you help Arizona.
"When you choose to support a local business, the times, the money stays here and circulates and in turn they hire other businesses, such as accounting firms, graphic designers developers etc.," she said.
All jobs that keep Arizonans employed. Money that helps Arizona's community.
