Man charged in northern NY hit-and-run death

Posted: Updated:

OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (AP) - A 26-year-old man has been extradited from Arizona to face manslaughter and driving while intoxicated charges stemming from a fatal hit-and-run accident in northern New York in August.

State police say Devin Ferguson-Brenno of Ogdensburg has also been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, tampering with evidence and multiple traffic violations.

Troopers say 19-year-old Benjamin Schick was struck and killed by Ferguson-Brenno's Honda CRV on County Route 6 in Morristown at 9 p.m. on Aug. 4.

Police say Ferguson-Brenno reported his car stolen after the accident and later went to stay with a relative in Surprise, Ariz.

Ferguson-Brenno appeared before a St. Lawrence County judge on Tuesday and is being held in the county jail to await being assigned a lawyer for his Dec. 4 arraignment.
