Thanksgiving is a great time for the family to come together, but with food at the center of the celebration it can also be a dangerous time for pets.

Dr. Katie Martin from Banfield Pet Hospital of Troy offers tips to help your four-legged friends have a happy, healthy holiday season, including:

  • Avoid feeding pets table scraps such as rich gravy and fatty poultry that can cause upset stomach
  • Safely dispose of the holiday bird and its packaging; as bones, strings and plastic wrapping smell tasty but are dangerous to pets if ingested
  • If your pet is prone to stress, make sure they have a safe place to hide and rest where they feel comfortable as well as have plenty of access to water
