Student Reports Assault, Chase On University Campus

Posted: Updated:
WEST CHESTER, Pa. -

A female student says she was assaulted in the parking lot at West Chester University. Now, the hunt is on for the two attackers.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reported live from the campus Friday night that students say this is really scary for a couple of reasons.

For one, this happened in an area where you will find students around pretty much around the clock. This is a busy area with a recreation center and diner nearby.

The second reason is that police say the victim did not know her attackers.

Campus officials say the incident happened just before 9 p.m. Thursday night. They say the two strangers followed the girl and tried to grab her before she fought back and ran to safety.

The female student told police the two suspects chased her through the heart of campus and parking lot D.

Students got an email from the university's Department of Public Safety telling them what happened, and many students say it's been happening too often.

University officials say there was a rape on campus on Nov. 5 and an assault that took place in West Chester Borough late last month. They say there's no apparent connection to the most recent attack.

Officials say their current safety plans work, but some students aren't so sure.

Police say they're looking for two black men around 6 feet tall, both they say that one man was stocky, the other more slender. They say they did not have any facial hair and they had close-cropped haircuts.

And university officials rely on students to never walk alone. They say use well-lit walkways when you're going somewhere and always be aware of your surroundings.
