Jared Dudley: It's Part Of Our Culture, But Doesn't Mean Its Right

Posted: Updated:

About 12 hours after being on the court during the Matt Barnes-Serge Ibaka scuffle, Clippers forward Jared Dudley came onto Good Day LA and talked to Steve about the incident and the controversial tweet Matt Barnes sent out after the game. A tweet in which he referred to his teammates with the "n" word.

"He (Barnes) probably regrets it...it was an emotional game and there's no teammate you'd rather have than Matt Barnes. He always sticks up for everybody and I think he's just getting tired of it because of the reputation over the years of, you know, getting these flagrant fouls and they keep upgrading him and you lose five thousand here and two thousand here...I think he was shocked that he was ejected, I was shocked and then he kinda lost his cool and then he sent that tweet out. Obviously we don't like to hear that word used on that context or use that at all. And that's why it's unfortunate."

Steve asked Dudley what he thinks about anyone using that word...especially in the locker room.

"With people recording and you know how social media is today, you gotta watch what's being said. In sports, sometimes a locker room, people think that it can't get out to the public but as you see it does...and even with black people it shouldn't be said. We all make mistakes and say it at times and it's in the rap songs in our culture but doesn't mean it's right... Sometimes in the locker room it's different than tweeting cause tweeting...now it's a public thing."

Steve asked Dudley his take on why it was apparently acceptable in the locker room for a white athlete like Richie Incognito to use that word.

"It's never okay, not just for Incognitos, not just for whites, even for blacks also...and I think when people say his teammates allowed it, it should have never been allowed and that's the first step of it being wrong and it escalating."

Dudley also talks about fighting in the NBA, the fines and suspensions that come with it, and what incident forever changed the way the league cracks down on brawls.

Fun facts about Jared Dudley (Source: Wikipedia)

1.) Jared Dudley is an American professional basketball swingman with the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Dudley was born in San Diego, California. He appeared in the comedy film Movie 43 (2013), as a basketball player named Moses. Fellow NBA players Corey Brewer and Larry Sanders also appear in the film.

2.) On July 10, 2013, Dudley was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-team deal that also included the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns

(FOX 11 / AP)  Serge Ibaka of Oklahoma City and Matt Barnes of the Clippers have been ejected after an altercation in the second quarter of the teams' game.

Clippers star Blake Griffin was assessed a technical foul for his part in the incident with 6 seconds left in the first half Wednesday night at Staples Center.

Griffin was trying to put the ball up when his arms and Ibaka's became entangled. Barnes shoved Ibaka hard in the chest. Griffin kept trying to get at Ibaka as players from both teams formed a scrum. Ibaka cocked his right fist, but didn't take a swing as Barnes smiled at him.

Kevin Durant made the free throw on Griffin's technical and Russell Westbrook hit a 3-pointer to give the Thunder a 62-53 lead at the break.
