Device helps you track lost luggage

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Dream vacations turned into real life nightmares all over lost luggage. Now a tracking device by an Austrian company called Locca promises to fix that problem: a GPS locator for your luggage.

"It's like if you lose your phone, you want to know exactly where it is, you lose your luggage, that's like losing your life on vacation," says Julian Breitenecker, the creator. He says the concept is simple: you put the small device in your suitcase and it uses GPS technology to communicate with an app on your smartphone.

"If you go on the airplane and you want to track or use a suitcase and if the airplane is starting the GSM turns off, and if it's landing again, it turns on again and you get the exact city that your luggage has landed," he says.

Less than 1 percent of travelers lost their luggage in the last year, according to experts. Travelers we spoke to say they usually get it back in a timely fashion.

The device starts at $150 and there's also a $14 monthly service fee.
