Two shot in South Chicago restaurant

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two people were injured when two shooters opened fire Friday night inside a South Chicago neighborhood eatery.

Two males wearing all back walked into JJ Fish & Chicken in the 8800 block of South Commercial at 7:18 p.m. and fired shots, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

A woman, 25, was shot in the head and taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.

A man, 19, was shot in the chest and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. His condition was not yet known.

The woman who lives above the restaurant said she was told the victims were ordering food and waiting to meet somebody when they got into an altercation with two or three other people in the restaurant.

The woman added that when she came downstairs, she saw paramedics take the injured woman away.

She was lying on her face when they picked her up, "I could see she had been shot in the face," said the woman, who did not want to give her name.

"I can't wrap my head around the fact they would do that to a girl," the woman said.

She said another man who was with the victims told her that a man had been shot in the chest and ran out of the restaurant. He staggered a block south to a Mexican restaurant where he flagged down a police officer.

Neither shooter was in police custody Friday evening as Area South detectives investigated the case.
