Fan wears Jets helmet after Hawks' Bollig slams Pardy into glass

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

When Chicago Blackhawks forward Brandon Bollig checked Winnipeg Jets defenseman Adam Pardy into the glass Wednesday night at the United Center, a fan, who appeared to be intoxicated, took the helmet off of Pardy's head and placed it on his own head.

With the game in hand with 6:22 left in the third, Bollig got a big cheer from the sellout crowd when he drove Pardy through a glass panel in Winnipeg's end of the ice.

Pardy then was leaning over the boards and into the crowd when a fan took his helmet off and put it on. The man's friends cheered him on, like that was a good idea. A woman also dumped her beer on Pardy before the officials were able to break up the scrum.

"I don't know what happened to my stick, either. It got lost in the crowd somewhere, too," Pardy said. "Just a little insult to the injury, I guess. It was a tough night for all of us.

Winnipeg's announcers said, "Only in Chicago…," after the incident took place.

Pardy later said he's glad to see Chicago's hockey fans are so into the game. He added that getting thrown into the glass is hard enough, but didn't appreciate the beer on top of it all.

"It was tough enough to get put through the glass, but then to get a beer thrown on my head, too, it wasn't a good thing."

In response to the incident, a spokesperson for the Chicago Blackhawks sent FOX 32 the following statement:

"We have spoken to those involved in the incident with an opposing player late in our home game last night at the United Center. The individuals were immediately ejected from the arena to preserve the safety of everyone in attendance, including other fans, players and officials. We have also been in communication with the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL to convey our organization's apologies."
