NORTH PHILADELPHIA -

Two police officers chased a bicyclist they thought may have been a burglary suspect, but chaos erupted after witnesses say the officers hit the man with their car and then slammed into a wall. The man's family is outraged.

Witnesses say police were following a bicyclist near the 4100 block Of North 5th Street around 3p.m. and ended up hitting the man and smashing into a wall.

Relatives identify him as 33-yearold Juan Lugo. His bike ended up wedged between the cop car and the wall.

The victim's family including his kids saw the aftermath.

"They ran him into the wall because he wouldn't stop for him," Robert Lugo Jr. said.

Police tell FOX 29 that they had been following Lugo because he fit the description of a burglary suspect. As they followed him, one of the officers misjudged a turn and accidentally hit a wall.

They say Lugo wasn't seriously hurt, but his family is angry and say police went too far.

Police say no complaints about this incident have been filed. Both officers injured on the scene have been treated and released from the hospital.
