PHOENIX -

Two people are safe after a fire broke out at their home near 35th Avenue and Thomas early Monday morning.

Fire officials believe the flames started on the backyard patio around 1 a.m. and quickly spread into the attic.

According to fire officials, a woman sleeping inside the home smelled the smoke and then woke up the second person.

Both people, along with one dog, were able to get out safely.

The family is displaced because the electricity in the home is out and there is a lot of smoke damage.

The exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
