WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) -

An attempted murder and an attempted suicide took place at a Warren home Wednesday on Paige Street, near Nine Mile and Hoover roads, police say.

Police say Mitchell Adam Holcomb, 30, stood outside and fired a gun through a window aiming for his ex-wife, who was seated at a table with the pair's two-year-old son, her mother and boyfriend.

The shot missed and no one was hurt. Police say Holcomb then shot himself but survived.

Holcomb came to the house back in May, kicked in the door and assaulted the ex-wife and her mother. He was also currently wanted on two assault warrants for that incident.

The ex-wife and her mother believed they had taken out personal protection orders against Holcomb, but Warren police say once a judge signs a PPO it must be shown to police in order to be entered into the system. Police say they never saw the order so it was not in the system.

Holcomb has survived a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He's in bedside police custody at an area hospital. He is expected to be arraigned Monday or Tuesday on attempted murder, health permitting.
