Leave Your Silly String At Home Tonight, Hollywood

Posted: Updated:

A reminder from the Los Angeles Police Department to leave your Silly String at home during the Halloween festivities.  The ordinance banning Silly String in Hollywood on Halloween night came as a direct response to the requests of Hollywood Boulevard property owners. The ordinance calls for a maximum $1000 fine and/or six months in jail for use, possession, sale or distribution of Silly String in Hollywood from 12:01 a.m. on October 31 to 12:00 p.m. on November 1.

On a typical Halloween night, hundreds of thousands of people come to Hollywood Boulevard, and hundreds of illegal vendors used to flock to the street and sell Silly String which then became the sole source of entertainment for the night.

The financial costs to the city could be detrimental as they exceed $200,000 for this one night.

Individuals, businesses and/or vendors possessing or selling Silly String on public or private property in Hollywood will be given the option to voluntarily discard the product or face a maximum $1000 fine and/or six months in jail.

I met the folks from Gunnar Optiks at CES this year and they had something new to show me. The Intercepts. I have a big head, these are big frames, it was kismet but do they work as good as they look? We'll see.
