JONESBORO, Ga. -

A Jonesboro mother is grateful she and her toddler are safe after an SUV came crashing through their home early Tuesday morning.  Police are still investigating the circumstances, but they say it's not the first time a car has crashed through the same house.

Investigators say the woman behind the wheel of the SUV lost control of it just after 4 a.m. and slammed into the side of the house, which is located on Kendrick Road near Tudor Drive.

The mother who lives in the house was inside with her toddler when it happened, and she told FOX 5 she heard the loud crash, and a TV was knocked off the wall.  She says the alarm started going off in her house, and she grabbed her child and ran out.  They were not injured.

The driver of the SUV was taken in an ambulance to a nearby school and then airlifted to an Atlanta hospital.  Police don't know why she lost control of the vehicle.

Neighbors say despite the police's best efforts, the roadway is still notorious for speeding motorists. They say that this is not the first time a car has hit that particular house.

Ginger Austin, who lives nearby, tells FOX 5 the first time it happened was in July 1993.  She says a woman ran the stop sign and crashed into the same house, only this time, the driver hit a gas main.  That caused an explosion, and Austin described the mess left behind as disastrous.
