Fundraisers held to pay for funeral of boy beaten to death

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. -

A local community is coming together to help raise money for the family of a12-year-old boy police say was beaten to death by his father.

Deputies say they found  Eric Forbes beaten and unconscious insidea home Friday night. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

His father, Shayaa Forbes, is chargedwith murder and cruelty to children in the case.  Authorities said that Eric Forbes showed signs of abuse including multiple bite marks, lacerations andother marks consistent with abuse.

Celia Teague, the co-owner of Pizza Shack in Dallas, Ga.,said she didn't know Eric Forbes, but felt like she had to whatever she couldto help the family.

Fundraisers at the Pizza Shack, Beef O'Brady's and CrossRoadsNeighborhood Grille on Thursday raised $3,000 for help pay for Eric Forbes'funeral, organizers said.

Patrons waited up to 45 minutes to get a table at CrossRoads, according tothe restaurant.

Mitzi McDonald helped organize the fundraisers.

"He died in such a tragic way and we just want to make surehe goes out right and is buried properly, that he has beautiful flowers on hiscasket," McDonald said.

Any money raised leftover after the costs of the funeralwill go towards a college fund for Eric's younger sister.

A memorial service for Eric Forbes will be held at 4 p.m.Oct. 27 at West Ridge Church in Dallas, Ga.
