PHOENIX -

He was an up and coming boxer -- an Olympic hopeful. But Alexis Urbina's life was cut short at 17 -- murdered inside his home.

But up until now there have been no arrests in the case. No arrests and no leads. Which is why his family and friends are taking action of their own to generate clues.

With no leads for police to go on, those in the boxing community, family, and even strangers are coming together -- hoping to find someone out there that knows something about his death.

Before a boxing match at the Arizona State Fair, Don Smith is hard at work.

"I want to catch the killers, I really do."

He's passing out flyers to hopefully spur on leads in the death of Alexis Urbina -- a young boxer with hopes of one day making it to the Olympics.

"Maybe this will bring the people out of the shadows and start talking."

Smith is a journalist for Arizona Boxing News and Notes. He covered many stories about the young boxer.

"As a journalist, it's a story, as a human being, as a humanitarian, as an activist, it's something that I have to do."

He helped get a billboard up in south Phoenix -- anything he can do to help find Urbina's killer.

"I don't think the pain will ever ease up, because he was a very special kid," says Smith.

At Knock Out Boxing Gym -- Alexis Urbina's sister Sulem says their family is hopeful for news.

"It's been past a month since my brother's death and there have been unfortunately no leads, no tips, nothing, we don't know anything," says Sulem.

"You just get to a point where you start getting angry and frustrated, you just can't think of any reason why these people are still out there. Are they going to be hurting other people?"

Those close to Urbina are hoping that by keeping his face in the spotlight -- his killer or killers will be brought to justice.

"Somebody somewhere somehow will come across, they will report something."

Smith is hoping to get more billboards put up around the valley.
