A man is said to have grabbed a saw from a construction scene on Eight Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue Monday morning. A worker saw what happened and tried to stop the man, but was injured along the way.

Police say the suspect ran across the road, grabbed a cement saw from one of the construction trucks and took the saw back to his vehicle. He began to drive away when one of the workers tried to stop him by grabbing onto his car.

The worker was dragged for some time before the driver drove into some construction barrels to dislodge the worker. The worker let go of the vehicle and the suspect drove off.

The worker received some injuries to his legs but none are life threatening. He is being treated at a local hospital.

The suspect is described as a black male 30 to 40 years old with a stocky build weighing 200 to 250 pounds. He was driving an older Chevy Beretta or Oldsmobile Calais. The cement saw he got away with is worth hundreds of dollars.

Police are reviewing area surveillance video. In the meantime, if you know anything call police.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone who has information regarding the crime should call Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (1-800-773-2587). All calls and cash rewards are completely anonymous.

The city of Detroit says workers and retirees have approved pension cuts, a crucial step to emerging from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. The city reported results Monday after two months of balloting ended July 11. A judge still must hold a trial to determine if Detroit's overall bankruptcy plan is fair and feasible, but support from retirees is vital.
