Are Atlanta sports teams cursed?

Atlanta sports teams: Are they cursed? Or was it just a stroke of bad luck?

I got a heavy dose of what it's like to be an Atlanta sports fan last Monday night. I sat in the press box for Monday Night Football between the Falcons and Jets, nowhere near a television to watch NLDS Game 4 between the Braves and Dodgers.

I thought, this could either be a really great night for Atlanta fans, or a really bad one. Unfortunately, the latter is what happened, and according to some folks I talked to, apparently it's something they were expecting.

I didn't think there was any way the Falcons were going to get beat by Geno Smith and the Jets-- especially not at the Georgia Dome. I wasn't set on the Braves winning on the road in Dodger Stadium, but thought with their backs against the wall in a hostile environment, they might be able to feed off that atmosphere and force a decisive Game 5 back in Atlanta. Didn't happen.

A day later, rumors began swirling that Julio Jones had a season-ending foot injury. Sure enough, it was true on Wednesday.

All of that in a span of less than 24 hours. What the.... ?!

On Thursday, the Dream lost to Minnesota in the WNBA Finals. Sheesh.

Then the weekend happened. Georgia gets beat by Mizzou. Georgia Tech drops its third straight game of the year against BYU, and Georgia State remains winless on the season after a loss to Troy.

Worst week ever or what?!

It can't be this way forever, right? One day, one of these teams will win a championship... right?

The Falcons are dealing with some serious injury problems. The Braves pitching staff had been dwindled down too because of injuries. Three of their highest paid players -- Brian McCann, B.J. Upton, and Dan Uggla -- had 0 hits in the postseason.

UGA has injury issues of its own. They've lost RB Keith Marshall, Malcolm Mitchell and Justin Scott-Wesley for the season. Todd Gurley and Michael Bennett are out for the time being, too. Both should be back.

Georgia Tech hasn't won a game since September 21. They started off the season 3-0, and have dropped their last three games to Virginia Tech, Miami and BYU.

Georgia State, under first-year head coach Trent Miles were close to a victory Saturday night against Troy, but are now a dreadful 0-6.

Basketball season anyone?! I don't know if it will get any better there... but a fresh start at least?!

Really, is this about a curse, or just a heavy dose of some bad luck lately?  Is this enough to send you rooting for new teams? How much more can you take of this can ya take?!

Let me know on my FOX 5 Facebook page (Merissa Lynn FOX 5) or on Twitter (@MerissaFOX5). I'll meet ya there and we'll talk curses/bad luck/getting through these losses together.

Last week, I had the opportunity to finally cover THE circus. Yes, THE SEC Media Days. College football really gets my juices flowing, and I couldn't wait to get to Hoover, Alabama.

The All-Star Break is here, and it couldn't have come at a better time for the Braves.  They're hurting-- literally.  But can the team stay healthy enough to make a playoff run?
