Covert Caffeine: Find Out Places It Might Be Hiding

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

There's something hiding in your food that could be giving you the jitters. We're talking about caffeine.

It's turning up in unexpected places, since food manufacturers are not required to list it on nutrition labels.

They're often adding it to healthy items, like sunflower seeds and oatmeal.

Problem is, when we start eating caffeine in multiple foods throughout the day, we lose track of just how much caffeine we are actually consuming.

When caffeine intake turns into addiction, you may notice side effects like dehydration and fatigue.

And if you still need a reason why you shouldn't give your child caffeine, listen up: a new study finds the substance may delay brain development in teenagers and also cause them to gain weight.

Fox 29's Sheinelle Jones has more details in this video report.
