Ludacris pitches MARTA's 'Ride with Respect' campaign

MARTA is turning to local celebrity star power to advertise their new "Ride with Respect" campaign.

Comedian Jeff Foxworthy and hip hop artist Ludacris are part of the transit system's campaign to cut down on bad behavior by passengers on its trains and buses.

Ludacris said it's was easy for him to get behind the initiative.

"I love spreading messages, especially when it comes to my city of Atlanta, Georgia," Ludacris said. "I used to ride MARTA all the time, so I think it's important that when people ride they feel safe and they're in a respectable environment.

MARTA executives say the campaign cracks down on unruly riders.

 "Things like not playing your music too loudly, using inappropriate language," said Jennifer Jinadu-Wright of MARTA.

More police officers and additional cameras are part of the effort to enforce the code of conduct. Violations could lead to suspension from the system ranging from days to a year.

Riders told FOX 5 that they believe having well-known figures like Ludacris will help get the word out about the new campaign.

"It's kind of odd, but they will probably listen to the celebrities more than their peers or teachers," said MARTA rider Teneshia Brooks.

Ludacris said he's glad to be part of it.

"There's strength in numbers. It's our responsibility. With great power comes great responsibility, so that's what we're here for. I think it's great we're all coming together for this," said Ludacris.

The new code of conduct goes into effect in November.
