Jet Pull benefits Valley of the Sun United Way

PHOENIX -

A testament to the power of human strength out a Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

Hundreds of employees with US Airways and the city of Phoenix took part in Friday's 10th annual Phoenix Jet Pull.

They pulled the Arizona Cardinals Airbus aircraft across the airport's tarmac.  Several teams were involved.  Each one tried to see how fast they could pull the jet a total of 15 feet.

"We're pulling a 50 ton airplane 15 feet with 20 people.  We have 53 teams competing," said US Airways' Paul Morell.

Team leaders kept everyone coordinated on the ropes, pulling 100,000 pounds of high tech aircraft -- which is enough to leave you winded!

Friday's event was a big benefit for the United Way.  All these teams tried to beat last year's record held by team Rampage.  They pulled the aircraft 15 feet in a little more than five seconds!

"You know what, it's a bipartisan effort we're all working together as a team," said Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell.
