Detroit Police end investigation of reported abducted 11-year-old girl

DETROIT (WJBK) -

UPDATE: Detroit Police have announced they are ending the investigation following reports of an abduction of an 11-year-old girl on the city's west side.

Police say they have no evidence at this time that supports an abduction happened Tuesday morning in the area of Benton and Plainview, just east of Evergreen.

They will, however, leave tip lines open in case anyone hears or knows something.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police at 313-596-5600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

A boy home on a school suspension told police he saw an unidentified girl walking down the street when a four-door gray Chevy Cavalier pulled up next to her. The boy says a man exited the vehicle, grabbed the girl and placed her inside despite her kicking and resisting, before driving away.

Police have checked the attendance records and uniform policies at nearby schools to help identify the girl.

"We checked the schools in the area and all the students who were absent have been accounted for. And, again, no parents, no school officials have come forth saying they are missing any children," says Sgt. Michael Woody of Detroit police.

The initial description of the girl:

Police say the girl was wearing a school uniform with navy blue pants, a white shirt and a blue sweater. She is described as a black female standing 4-foot tall.

The initial description of the suspect:

Police describe the suspect is a white male, possibly in his 30s, standing 6-foot-tall with a shaved head and a goatee. He was wearing a red T-shirt and black pants.

Police say the boy who reported the abduction was about 200 feet away from the incident, so it is possible the man could be a light-skinned black man.
