Woodstock Film Festival is under way thru Sunday

Posted: Updated:

WOODSTOCK, N.Y. (AP) - The 14th Annual Woodstock Film Festival is under way.

The opening-night film Thursday is "Broadway Idiot", directed by Doug Hamilton, a veteran television journalist for CBS News 60 Minutes who also has done PBS documentaries for NOVA and Frontline.

The film follows Grammy winner Billie Joe Armstrong as he works with Broadway veterans to turn his mega-hit album, American Idiot, into a Broadway musical. "Broadway Idiot" is a portrait of a world-famous artist having the guts to try something totally new. Hamilton goes behind the scenes to reveal the creative choices made by Armstrong and Tony-winning director Michael Mayer to create an unusual musical experience.

"Ass Backwards", directed by Chris Nelson, and "We Are What We Are", directed by Jim MickeI, are the closing night films on Sunday.
