State Senator Don Balfour was booked this week into the Fulton County Jail after Georgia's Attorney General says he misused his legislative expense account.

Balfour is charged with 16 counts of making a false statement, one count of theft by taking, and one count of false statement and writing.

In a statement released to FOX 5 News on Friday, the Attorney General's Office stated that the arrests stem from his filing of Georgia General Assembly expense vouchers.

It was not clear if Balfour posted bond as of Wednesday morning.
