PHOENIX -

You can now get a ride using your phone and your driver won't show up in a cab. They'll show up in their own car. It's called Lyft and it operates in 13 cities including Phoenix, and you don't even have to pay a fare!

With her pink mustache leading the way, Audrey Adkins begins her day.

"This is a ridesharing program where you download an app request a ride from there and your driver will arrive in five to ten minutes," said Audrey Adkins, Lyft driver.

Adkins drives for Lyft part time. She loves the flexible hours and even as a young woman she feels safe letting strangers sit up front in the passenger seat, standard Lyft procedure.

"There's always the fact that you have to have a Facebook account you have to have a valid credit card on hand."

You can tell that the drivers love the service they're providing with Lyft, but what's the benefit for the rider? Well your payment is synced up to your smart phone so you pay directly by the push of a button and instead of paying a fare, you give a donation, whatever you think the driver deserves.

"Then once a week its direct deposit you don't know what people are donating individually, it's just a total for the whole week."

You could pay nothing, but then another driver will see your rating and you may have tough time getting a driver to pick you up.

"You get a little notification that says you may be more likely to get a ride in the future because there is a bit of a filter on that," says Adkins.
