(FOX 11) IPads are great aren't they? But not if you can't do anything but homework! So, the students at Roosevelt High school figured out a way to hack the security system so they can use their iPads for whatever they want.
That's not what the LA Unified School District had in mind when it started issuing iPads to the students at Roosevelt.
It took exactly one week for the nearly 300 students to hack through security so they can Facebook and surf the web. When school officials discovered the security breach, they stopped distribution of the iPads to other students in the district.
The iPad program is costing LAUSD $1 billion dollars. The idea is to equip every student with an iPad. Roosevelt students are the among the first to get the tablets. There were similar hacking problems at two other high schools where the iPads were being distributed.
Now, school officials are weighing their options. One thing they are considering is spending more money to install new a security app.
