Fire Crews Battle 200 Acre 'Sierra Fire' Near Cajon Pass

More than 390 firefighting personnel are aggressively attacking the 200 acre Sierra Fire near the Cajon Pass. The fire erupted just before 4 p.m. Sept. 24 near Glen Helen Road and Interstate 15.

Mandatory evacuations began along Glen Helen Road at around 5:30 p.m. yesterday, but were lifted around midnight.

Crews assigned to fight the blaze included 6 air tankers (including the DC-10) 5 helicopters and 4 water tenders, 46 fire engines with 10 fire crews, and 5 fire bulldozers.

Firefighters are hoping for containment on this fire by the afternoon on Friday.
