4-year-old pulled from community pool in Apache Junction
APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. -
A 4-year-old girl is recovering Friday night after nearly drowning in a community pool in Apache Junction.
It happened in the area of Meridian and Ironwood.
Firefighters say the little girl was breathing on her own when they arrived -- a good sign.
She went underwater after her mother turned away to check on her other kids for a few moments.
"That 4-year-old female apparently slipped through an inner tube into the water and was under water for long enough time to stop breathing. The mother immediately was able to pull the child from the pool and begin CPR," said Dave Montgomery, Apache Junction Fire.
The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
She's since been upgraded to "good" condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
