HOSCHTON, Ga. -

The deadly fire that killed an autistic man late Wednesday evening will be ruled an accident.

A spokesperson for the Georgia Insurance Commissioner's Office tells FOX 5 News that 20-year-old Tanner Wassler was killed by the fire that broke out at his family's home on Jackson Meadow Drive in Hoschton. His mother, 41-year-old Lori Lynn Wassler, was taken to Athens Regional Hospital due to injuries received in the fire. Another man, 58-year-old Mike Clayton, was able to escape unharmed.

Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen. They say several items left on the stove caught fire and quickly spread.

Three different fire departments battled the blaze. They were forced to call off an interior search for Wassler when the roof started to collapse. A secondary search turned up his body in the closet.
