Pa. couple sentenced for 'Idol' knife fight

YORK, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania couple who attacked each other with knives during an argument over "American Idol" won't serve time in prison and can resume contact with each other.

The York Dispatch reported Wednesday that Karen Elaine Harrelson and Gregory Stambaugh have pleaded guilty to simple assault. The 48-year-old Harrelson was sentenced to the time she's already served, while the 57-year-old Stambaugh got two years of probation.

York County prosecutor Alex Hallman says there's still a court order prohibiting them from having any "threatening, abusive or harassing contact."

Hallman tells the paper the May 15 fight was "more about the inebriation" than the singing ability of the TV show's contestants.

Harrelson suffered cuts on her wrist and fingers, while Stambaugh had a puncture wound to his forearm.
