Delaware State Troopers Investigate Crash After Burglary

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. -

Delaware State Police are investigating an early morning burglary that occurred at the Coach Outlet in Rehoboth Beach that led to car collision.

On Wednesday at 4:00 a.m., Troopers responded to an alarm activation that was received from the Coach Outlet in Rehoboth Beach. When police arrived at the location, they saw a black 2007 Mercedes Benz SUV leaving the shopping plaza and attempted to perform a traffic stop.

The vehicle disregarded the troopers signal and continued northbound on Coastal Highway (SR1) at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle approached a slight right curve in the roadway near the SR1/US113 merge near Milford, a 2002 Ford Taurus traveling in the northbound lane was struck from behind causing both vehicles to spin out of control.

The Mercedes came to a stop in the center median and the two occupants fled to the west crossing the southbound lanes of SR1. The driver of the 2002 Ford Taurus has been identified was transported by EMS to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers were able to recover 85 Coach Purses estimated in value of over $29,000.00.
