LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) -

Dr. Abdalmajid Katranji is a hand surgeon in Lansing, but he often works in Syria doing intricate work to mend the casualties from the country's civil war. He talked to Fox 2 about the kinds of injuries he's seen there.

Dr. Katranji describes treating blast injuries, concussive injuries, thermal injuries such as burns, crush injuries which buildings and rubble fall on people crushing them alive, and other potentially deadly wounds. He says he first heard about chemical attacks more than a year ago and he recently saw video footage the Obama administration says is proof Syrian President Bashar Al Assad is using the nerve agent Sarin on his own people.

"I was repulsed. I was absolutely repulsed," Dr. Katranji says. "This is something that you'd never expect to see in a modern era."

He says as a humanitarian, he supports a US military strike against the Syrian government. But, Zuhair Abudl Hak, a Lebanese American says US intervention will do more harm than good. This from a man whose niece lost a husband and another niece lost a son in Syria.

Congress is expected to vote this week. Stay with Fox 2 and myfoxdetroit.com for updates.
